Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and others waive royalty fees for tracks appearing on Universal Music's digital album benefitting the Japan Red Cross.
Rapper Nicki Minaj and Bajan singer Rihanna are just a handful of artists who will be lending their songs to a digital-only album that will help in raising funds for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
“Let's continue to keep the people of Japan in our prayers! We are all heartbroken for u,” Rihanna Tweeted following news of the earthquake.
The digital album will be released through Universal Music Group and will also feature tracks from Justin Bieber, U2, Bon Jovi, and possibly Lady Gaga.
“We are doing it only digitally because it is faster, and this will be a worldwide release. The plan is to have it available later this week,” a spokesperson for the Japanese Red Cross explained.
All of the artists appearing on the album have agreed to waive royalty fees to provide the maximum funds for Japan.
The benefit album is expected to be available in online stores later this week. All proceeds from the album will be sent directly to the Japan Red Cross.
